A depository holds securities (like
shares, debentures, bonds, Government Securities, units etc.)
of investors in electronic form. Besides holding securities, a
depository also provides services related to transactions in
securities. In India, there are two Depositories -National
Securities Depositories Limited (NSDL) and Central Depository
Services Limited (CDSL). Under the Depositories Act, investors
can avail of the services of the Depositories through
Depository Participants (DP) such as ABN AMRO Bank.
